Instructions
This medicine will be given to you at home.
This medicine is used by injecting it into the skin. Please ask your doctor, nurse or pharmacist for the correct places on your body where this medicine can be injected.
Read and make sure you understand the instructions for measuring dose and using syringe. If you have any questions, talk to your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
The liquid should be clear and colorless.
Check the medicine before each use. If the liquid medicine has any particles in it, appears discolored, or if the vial appears damaged, do not use it.
Do not shake the medicine before using.
Keep the medicine in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it. Remove from the refrigerator and let it warm up to room temperature before using. Keep the medicine at room temperature once opened. Do not put it back into the refrigerator. Do not freeze. Discard it if frozen.
When you are ready to use the medicine, remove it from the refrigerator and then keep it at room temperature - below 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). Do not put it back in the refrigerator.
Do not store the medicine pen with the needle attached. Always remove the needle after each use.
Discard the injectable pen 30 days after first use, even if there is medicine left in the pen.
Never use any medicine that has expired.
Do not used the medicine past its expiration date or if it has been more than 30 days since it was removed from the refrigerator.
Please ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist how to discard unused medicines safely.
Wash your hands before and after handling this medicine.
You or a family member can be trained to give this medicine at home.
Avoid injecting the medicine within 2 inches around the navel.
Do not inject into skin that is red, swollen or itchy.
Change the location of the injection each time. Choose a location at least 1 inch from the last injection.
If you forget to take a dose on time, take it as soon as you remember if it is on the same day. If you don’t remember until the next day, skip the missed dose and return to your regular schedule with the next dose. Do not take 2 doses at one time.
Drug interactions can change how medicines work or increase risk for side effects. Tell your health care providers about all medicines taken. Include prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal medicines. Speak with your doctor or pharmacist before starting or stopping any medicine.
Talk to your doctor before taking other medicines, including aspirins and ibuprofen containing products. Speak to your doctor about which medicines are safe to use while you are on this medicine.
Keep using this medicine for the full number of days that it is prescribed. Do not stop the medicine even if you start to feel better.
You may need vitamin and mineral supplements while on this medicine. Please speak with your doctor or pharmacist.
Keep all appointments for medical exams and tests while on this medicine.
Do not take the medicine more than once during 24 hours.
Cautions
Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you ever had an allergic reaction to a medicine.
Do not use the medication any more than instructed.
This medicine may cause dizziness or fainting. Do not stand or sit up quickly.
Your ability to stay alert or to react quickly may be impaired by this medicine. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medicine will affect you.
Please check with your doctor before drinking alcohol while on this medicine.
Call the doctor if there are any signs of confusion or unusual changes in behavior.
Tell the doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant, planning to be pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Ask your pharmacist how to properly throw away used needles or syringes.
Do not share this medicine with anyone who has not been prescribed this medicine.
Some patients have serious side effects from this medicine. Ask your pharmacist to show you the information from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and discuss it with you.
Side Effects
The following is a list of some common side effects from this medicine. Please speak with your doctor about what you should do if you experience these or other side effects.
- dizziness
- low blood pressure
- pain, redness, swelling near injection
- rapid heartbeat
Call your doctor or get medical help right away if you notice any of these more serious side effects:
- severe or persistent bone, joint or jaw pain
- confusion
- constipation
- fainting
- muscle weakness
- nausea and vomiting
- shortness of breath
- unusual or unexplained tiredness or weakness
A few people may have an allergic reaction to this medicine. Symptoms can include difficulty breathing, skin rash, itching, swelling, or severe dizziness. If you notice any of these symptoms, seek medical help quickly.
